Home delivery of fruit and vegetables in Sintra
Sintra, Portugal’s charming historic city, is a treasure trove of fascinating secrets, which is why Equal Food is pleased to announce home delivery of fruit and vegetables in Sintra. Not only is it renowned for its stunning architecture and lush landscapes, there are also some little-known facts that make Sintra even more intriguing. Few people know that Sintra was the first place in the country to have electricity, thanks to a hydroelectric plant that opened in 1892. The city is also home to the National Palace of Sintra, which is one of the few palaces in Europe still inhabited by a royal family.

When it comes to sustainability and the circular economy, Sintra has stood out for its innovative initiatives. One of the most important projects is the implementation of the concept of sustainable tourism. With the aim of preserving the cultural and natural wealth of the region, measures have been adopted to limit the number of visitors to certain locations and encourage the use of public transport and bicycles. In addition, Sintra has promoted sustainable waste management, with the implementation of recycling programs and the creation of community gardens to make use of organic waste.
These pioneering initiatives make Sintra a reference in the promotion of sustainability and circular economy, showing that it is possible to reconcile tourism and respect for the environment in such a special historical city. In this sense , Equal Food is a great opportunity to complement a healthy and sustainable lifestyle in the midst of a city of such historical importance.

And why Equal Food?
We are a project with the mission of helping regional farmers to sell their (im)perfect and/or surplus products, by selling baskets and delivering fruit and vegetables to homes in Sintra to consumers who want to participate in a more sustainable food chain, while maintaining a healthy and conscious diet.
To date, thousands of people from the Equal Food community have contributed more than €70,000 to 50 local producers, thus preventing the waste of more than 100 tons of food that would otherwise go to waste.
As part of our commitment to minimising food waste in Portugal, we are constantly working to expand our network of regional farmers. Our goal is to continue to grow and play an increasingly important role in the fight against food waste in Portugal .
Do you want to know where our products come from?
All our products are local, regional, seasonal and fresh. We support farmers and produce that is rejected by the traditional market. And why? All our farmers’ products are fresh and of high quality, but the distribution market for these foods imposes very specific rules on what reaches, for example, large supermarkets and the traditional market in general.
Beauty standards and market practices do not justify food waste. Our work, together with our farmers and customers, is to channel surplus produce that would normally go to waste. By delivering fruit and vegetables to your home in Sintra, we give a new home to imperfect but perfectly edible produce that would otherwise end up in the trash and contributing to food waste.
